AN AMAZING AND EXEMPLARY STORY

Will You Reach 98 Years Old in Excellent Shape?

Dr. Héctor Zayas Bazán Will Tell Us How.

This is an amazing story that we couldn't pass unnoticed. It is the story of a 98 years old man, who enjoys an excellent health.

by Salvador Santana

Dr. Héctor Zayas Bazán delivering
one of the many presentations he had
made in the U.S. and Latin America
before Pharmacist Associations.
Dr. Héctor Zayas Bazán graduated in the Havana University as a Pharmacist on July 19, 1939. He later earned a faculty and became professor of Ontology and History of Pharmacy and Law of Pharmacy, which he held until the arrival of Communism to Cuba in 1959.

Zayas Bazán is a descendant of a very distinguished family in the Island. His grandfather and father fought in the war against the Spaniards in 1898-1902, the Independence War. It was in May 20, 1902, when Cuba became a democratic Republic, being its first president Don Tomas Estrada Palma.

Bazán will tell us his secret to keep in a good shape at 98. He is also a good public speaker, well known in the circle of Pharmacists in his country, in the United States of America, and in Latin America. He needs more walls in his home to exhibit all the diplomas he has got in Cuba and in the U.S. during his brilliant career and many public presentations. Oh, he's a great poet too, having published many of his poems.

What is he doing now? Of course, he's retired. But still writes non-profital books,  drive his car, and go to the gym. His vision is 20-20. Constantly, he's receiving invitations from other countries to attend conferences related to his profession. He's considering now to travel to Salvador, where one of those events will take place in December. His mind is as sharp as a Cuban machete.

Our unique country man was born in Camagüey Province, at the east side of Cuba, on April 24, 1914, about three months before the start of World War I. Camagüey was known for its vast prairies where the breeding and care of one of the best castle in the world were taken care by experts. Exportation of castle used to be a source of great revenues for entrepreneurs and for the country at large before the Castros. One of the customs in Camagüey is the display of big pitchers (tinajones) on the patios of each home.

THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE

When Dr. Zayas Bazán was working for Linner Lab in Havana, at the same time he was attending the University, in 1938 he married Hilda Acosta McDonald, niece of the great Cuban poet Agustin Acosta. Until the death of Hilda on September 27, 2008, his love for her was demonstrated taking care of her in their home. Hilda was suffering of Alzheimer disease, and Hector didn't want to place her in a clinic. He actually lived for the love of his life taking care of her ever minute of the day. Amazing great heart! Hilda gave him a daughter, Teresita, now 71, living also in Costa Mesa, California, near her father. Our friend Héctor has the same last name of Carmen Zayas Bazán, the wife of the Cuban  Apostle José Martí.

--- How did you manage to be so healthy at 98,? we asked Dr. Zayas Bazán.

--- Very simple,he said. “I never smoked, never drunk alcohol or took drugs, I have exercised all the time, and eat healthy food, fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, turkey. I have never eaten red meat. That's all.”

"I have never eaten red meat,
smoke, take drugs, or drink
alcohol."---Dr. Zayas Bazán.

--- That's all? Do your drive? How is your vision?

--- I drive almost every day. My vision is 20-20.

--- We know you are the author of a few books and booklets...

--- So far, eight. The most important is the Manual of Pharmacy Legislation which was used by the students at the School of Pharmacy in the Havana University, until I resigned the position at the time Communism took over in the Island.

--- You have traveled a lot in North, South, and Central America and the Caribbean too. Why have you traveled so much?

--- Because I have been invited from many countries to attend conferences and deliver speeches regarding the profession of Pharmacy. I am the only Cuban Pharmacist who has been declared member of honor of the American Pharmaceutical Association, with offices in Washington, D.C. Also in Spain, I am a member of the Spaniard Pharmaceutical Association.

--- What is that... Costa Mesa Police Department diploma?

--- Oh, that is for the course I completed, as a CMPD volunteer.

--- Jesus! Have you ever been sick or been operated?

–- Those words are not in my dictionary.

--- You're an amazing human being, doctor. We wish we have lived the same healthy life as yours. We'll never hit the 98. We're not kidding! Doctor, happy birthday on April 24, 2012! We'll see you when you hit a 100...if we're still alive. This is too much for us..

¡Hasta la vista!

(You could wish a very happy birthday to Dr. Zayas Bazán, calling him at 1-714-662-3904. He'll be glad you call because he feels very lonesome after the passing of his wife.)

Lareanz Simmons Assassination

TWO PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE CRIME:
 THE SHOOTER AND THE DRIVER.

RPD Lt.
Guy Toussaint.

Riverside Police Lieutenant Guy Toussaint contacted The Truth Publication, informing some developments about the investigations of the murder case occurred in the East Side area on February 23, when Lareanz Simmons, 14, was killed by a look-like Spanish man.

Lt. Toussaint said that police is looking for a beige or silver 4-door mid size vehicle and a Hispanic male in his late teens to early 20s.  The boy was walking in front of his grandmother's home, where he lived, when the assassin shot him 5 or 6 times. An accomplice of the killer was the driver. Lareanz died on February 28, and his relatives donated his organs. The victim, who was black, was a well-liked Poly High School freshman with no gang affiliations. His dream was to enrol in the U.S. Army. "He was a caring kid who gave back to his community through his work with the Junior ROTC Program," informed Toussaint.

The Truth Publication already published there is a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the criminal. Somebody saw something at the moment of the assassination, and whoever is, he/she, should come forward to help the police to solve this horrible crime, which cost the life of a good kid and has created a high tension in that community, well known for gang violence between blacks and Hispanics.

Police have been searching the homes of people on probation or parole. They have turned up several guns, as well as information that has helped the investigation. There were shootings in the neighborhood the day before and the day after Lareanz was shot, and those willing to commit crimes have been arming themselves, Police reported. Lareanz grandmother Bernice Hobdy requested the public assistance. Calls to the police can be made anonymously contacting 1-800-782-7463.

WHO OWNS TWO CADILLACS?

Who is the wife of a famous Republican politician who drives two brand new Cadillacs?

"THAT IS AN EASY QUESTION"

"I'm going to make it easy for you, I like to help people. The answer is my wife Ann. So what? It's not anyone business that she drives two Cadillacs. I'm not a multimillionaire for nothing."--- Mitt Romney.

After Romney admitted he did a mistake exposing his wife's lavishness, he placed an add in the paper: "2013 top of the line XTS Cadillac for sale. 5,433 miles only. Sun roof. Leather interior. Navigator. Phone. Warranty included. If I have to give it away, I will. I'm a good Mormon. The White House for me will be a dream, if I don't get rid of it. Contact Mitt Romney for President headquarters for more info."

A SENSELESS MURDER

Editorial

How to Eliminate Gangs and Violence

When it looked like Riverside East Side got rid of the racial problems that hit the area in the past between some Blacks and Hispanics, violence erupted again on February 23, 2012, when a good and clean 14 years old black student was shot to death close to his home on Georgia Street.  Lareanz Simmons was a Poly High School freshman and member of the ROTC Program. He was a good kid, loved by everybody.

The good people who live in the East Side, blacks as well and Hispanics and White, are living under terror. They care especially for their young boys and girls who have to walk going to school or other places.

This situation has to stop in our beautiful town!

There is no room for violence in our City. Much less, violence due to racial hatred.

This is a social problem, an stupid social conflict between people who should be united to fight poverty, injustice, and lack of future. This horrible and bloody urban war is possible because legislators have skipped their duties with society.

Just to be a member of a gang should be enough reason for a severe punishment. It is an understatement to say that gang membership equals to crime: murder, drugs, violence. Police knows where they hide, but they have their hands tied up because of lack of legislation and the presence of a tolerance system with criminals.

It really makes you mad, when you hear that criminals are being released from prisons because there are not sufficient numbers of those facilities. Why didn't our federal and state government prevent such status? Why didn't they use the money for that important issue, instead to spend it in much less necessities? The safety of the citizens should be a priority!

Years ago, during the Riverside Police command of Chief Russ Leach, the Riverside County District Attorney sought a gang injunction against the East Side Rivas gang, which it made its members to disperse. Then, some Hispanics activists complained that law abiding residents were target by law enforcement agents. Well, there is a saying, no matter what you do, right or wrong, you are always "wrong."

We need legislation to make gang membership illegal. We need the construction of more prisons. We need to take more care of the poor areas. We need to convert hatred in love and wisdom. We have to work harder with parents.

The good citizens of Riverside deserve to live in peace!

Our deep condolences to the family and friends of Lareanz Simmons. We share their pain. The family decided to donor Larenz's organs, to save other people's lives.

Lareanz's family has established a trust fund to accept donations for medical expenses and funeral costs: Stuart and Simmons Donations, Bank of America Account 0621618929.

THIS IS NOT WHAT THE U.S. NEEDS

" I'm not concerned about the very poor."

This is what the Republican candidate Mitt Romney told CNN on February 1, 2012.

Mitt Romney policy proposals make clear that he also isn't very concerned about the middle class - his tax plan provides a modest tax cut, about $167, for middle class families but provides about $146,000 for families making more than $1 million.
